The Hong Kong Cantonese Receptive Vocabulary Test (HKCRVT)

HKCRVT

The Hong Kong Cantonese Receptive Vocabulary Test (HKCRVT) was developed by the professional team of speech therapists in Child Assessment Service (CAS), Department of Health in 1996. It is the first locally standardized test with norm reference which examines the Cantonese receptive vocabulary of preschool children in Hong Kong.

HKCRVT examines children’s understanding of 65 targets words consisted of nouns, verbs and adjectives. It uses the method of picture pointing to select the correct answer. Each test plate consists of 4 pictures - the target, a phonological distractor, a semantic distractor and an unrelated distractor. Normative data was collected from 609 local children aged 2 to 6 years.

HKCRVT can be performed on children aged 2 to 6 years and the administration time is about 10 to 15 minutes. It is designed to be used by qualified speech therapists.

HKCRVT is currently distributed by the Institute of Human Communicative Research of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The test is sold to eligible users at HK $600 per set. Interested professionals may call 3943 9609 for enquiries.
