The Children Reading Acuity Test (CRAT)

CRAT

The Children Reading Acuity Test (CRAT) was published in October 2017 by Child Assessment Service (CAS), Department of Health. This is the first locally developed Chinese reading acuity chart designed to measure the reading acuity, maximum reading speed and critical print size for Chinese children in Hong Kong.

The CAS team collaborated with the School of Optometry of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the development of this instrument. Norm data was collected from children aged 7 to 11 years with normal vision, recruited from local primary schools from four different districts in Hong Kong.

CRAT is intended for use by optometrists and other professionals working in the field of child development, for evaluation, follow up and intervention for children with suspected visual problems. It will be distributed to relevant local professionals. Interested professionals may contact us at 2246 6659 for enquiries.
