Scope of Service

Our Team

Paediatrician

Paediatricians in our CACs possess broad-based professional knowledge in developmental paediatrics and experience in assessing children's physical and mental development. They identify the causes for developmental anomaly through assessment and physical examination. They lead the team in diagnostic formulation, organisation of the rehabilitation plan and direction of therapy.

Public Health Nurse

Public Health Nurses participate in assessment of the overall development of children. They organize various health promotion activities, such as small group seminars, individual counselling and parent-child training for parents. The aim is to help parents better understand their child's problems and develop a positive attitude in coping with these problems thus maximising their child's potential.

Occupational Therapist

Occupational Therapists perform assessment mainly for children with problems in fine motor development, visual perception, hand writing and sensory integration. They provide parent guidance or short-term therapy to facilitate the child's development of self-care, learning and playing skills. Referral to other occupational therapy services will be made as necessary.

Physiotherapist

Physiotherapists assess the physical and motor development of children; comparing their posture, musculo-skeletal growth, gross motor function and coordination to children of same age. An individualised rehabilitation plan will be formulated and counselling, referral service or short term support will be provided so as to maximize the child's full potential.

Optometrist

Optometrists assess the child's visual function, including visual acuity, colour vision, binocular vision; visual field and eye movement. If necessary, they will follow up for progress and arrange referral to the ophthalmology clinics in HA for further examination and treatment.

Speech Therapist

Speech therapists perform assessment of communication skills, speech comprehension and expression, pronunciation, voice and speech fluency of children and assist their parents in coping with these problems. If necessary, they will follow up the children or arrange referrals to other speech therapy services.

Audiologist

Audiologists perform assessment to determine the child's hearing ability and if necessary, arrange referral to Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists and the Special Education Section of the Education and Manpower Bureau for further examination and follow-up actions. They guide parents on how to communicate with hearing impaired children, and on hearing protection and facilitation of language development. They also introduce the use of hearing aids as well as support services available to the hearing impaired.

Medical Social Worker

Medical Social Workers work with various professionals in formulating rehabilitation plans, make referrals to services and applications for social welfare resources. They also provide counselling and support to parents, arrange small group activities, and organise workshops, seminar, parents sharing sessions and visits to rehabilitation services.

Clinical Psychologist

Clinical Psychologists in our CACs assess the children's intellectual, behavioural, emotional and social development, as well as provide therapy to those with behaviour or emotional problems. They also provide counselling , give seminars and hold group discussions to assist parents tackle their child's developmental and associated problems.
