An Inclusive School - It All Begins with Our Hearts

Video production and broadcasting contests

To promote public awareness and attitudes towards developmental disabilities in children and their special education needs, Education Bureau, Department of Health with the support of Subsidized Primary School Council, Hong Kong Aided Primary School Heads Association and Union of Government Primary School Headmasters and Headmistresses had jointly organized “An Inclusive School - It All Begins with Our Hearts” - the video production and broadcasting contests in all primary schools.

The contests aimed to help students, parents and teachers consolidate their experience and knowledge in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), understand, accept and respect them. It provided an opportunity to exhibit the efforts and achievements of students with SEN; enabled the public to know and be more willing to accept them. By participating in the contests, teachers and students shared honestly and sincerely their attitude changes and many students started to care more about the SEN students. They found that apart from focusing on the disadvantages of students with SEN, they needed to understand their unique strengths and weaknesses and to provide assistance and support to them according to their abilities and actual needs.

The videos that won the gold, silver and bronze awards have been uploaded to the HKedCity website.
